I’ve been thinking of this specific panel okay guys, and my big question is: why do the holders look like they do.

I mean, why are they portrayed at those specific ages in their lifetimes. There has to be a certain significance, right?

It can’t be a conscious choice, since the visions don’t seem to have any sentience really – they’re not the ghosts of the previous holders of OfA, just echoes of the imprint they left on it (as All Might explained during the sports festival arc).

It can’t be the age at which they died, because All Might is still alive.

It can’t be the point at which they were in their “prime”, or the height of their careers as heroes, because All Might looks to be too young. His prime would probably have been his twenties, or thirties at the latest (whereas he’d be somewhere in his mid- to late-forties in the canon timeline).

You wanna know what I think?

I think it’s the age at which they received One for All. Which makes this image absolutely heartbreaking because:

Nana looks about the same age as in All Might’s flashbacks. Which MEANS that she would have had OfA for only a handful of years at most before she died. And that would explain SO MUCH. It would explain why no one seems to know about her, because someone as powerful as her would have HAD to be super fucking popular if she’d had a long career. Izuku would have at least heard of her. We know she had another quirk before OfA, so maybe she was already a hero when her master found and started training her?

And logically, it makes sense that you would give such a powerful and important quirk to an adult, to a hero that has already proven themselves to be good enough to wield it. With a teenager, they’re untested, and more than that, they’re still growing, and sometimes, they might not grow in the right direction. Maybe they’ll wake up tomorrow and decide being a hero is not for them.

The other OfA holders look quite a bit older than Toshi as well – in their twenties at least.

So why did Toshi receive OfA so early?

I think it’s because Nana died.

She met him as a teenager, and was probably planning on raising him slowly, over years and years, to be her successor. She was planning to be there with him every step of the way, to help him through high school and getting his provisional license and maybe even hire him as a sidekick for a few years before finally passing it on to him in his twenties.

But then maybe she got in a fight with All for One, and her injuries were fatal. All for One came this close to destroying One for All, and maybe he thought he did destroy it.

Maybe Nana passed OfA to All Might on her deathbed.

It would explain why All for One didn’t send everything he had to kill Toshinori when he was still young and untrained and vulnerable.

And Gran Torino trained All Might in secret, taught him to downplay his strength so he wouldn’t draw All for One’s attention to him too early on.

And by the time All for One had realized his mistake, All Might had grown strong enough to make All for One think twice.

Headcanon: There’s one language that Starfire wasnt able to get from Robin and she found out the day they went to visit a children’s hospital. At first, Starfire didn’t understand why this one kid was giving her weird hand gestures when Robin told her it was sign language and he was able to communicate with the deaf kid. And so for the first time it was Robin who was teaching a new language to Starfire everyday.
